Woman hurt in bus collision

A YOUNG woman was taken to hospital after she was struck by a bus on a busy road.

The collision happened at 2.40pm yesterday on Hylton Road, Sunderland, close to Bishopweamouth Cemetery.

The accident led police to close the road and put a diversion in place, while investigations were carried out and the scene was cleared.

The woman, believed to be in her late teens, was given first aid at the scene by paramedics.

She was then taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.

The extent of her injuries are not know. The road was reopened shortly after 4pm.
