A WOMAN was flown to hospital with serious injuries after the motorcycle on which she was a passenger collided with a car in Washington yesterday.

The accident happened at 11.30am on Heworth Road, Concord.

A Great North Air Ambulance trauma team, with the help of land paramedics, anaesthetised the women at the scene before performing some minor surgery and giving blood.

She was then flown to the Major Trauma Centre in the RVI, where she is described as being in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the motorbike suffered a fractured leg. The driver of the car was not injured.

The road was closed for a short time to allow for the incident to be dealt with and for enquiries carried out.
