Woman cut free from car after crash with bus in Washington

A WOMAN had to be cut from a car following a crash in Washington.

A Citroen Picasso and single-decker bus collided in Oxclose.

A total of 16 firefighters were called to Ayton Road and used specialist cutting equipment to free the 33-year-old, shortly after noon on Monday.

She was placed on a spinal board and taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, suffering from back, chest and leg injuries.

The drivers of the car and the bus managed to get out of their vehciles before the emergency services arrived.

A 77-year-old woman, a bus passenger, was also taken to hospital for treatment to spinal injuries.
