Woman cut free from car

A WOMAN had to be cut free from her car after it ran off the road at the weekend.

The accident happened on the B1284 road near Lumley Castle, near Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, shortly before 8am yesterday.

Two fire engines from High Handenhold and the Durham special rescue tender were sent to the scene and used specialist equipment to release the woman from the car, which had hit a lamppost.

The woman was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment.
