Woman arrested after blaze at Sunderland takeaway

A 19-YEAR-OLD woman has been questioned by detectives over a suspected arson attack at a takeaway.

The suspect was arrested yesterday in connection with the blaze at the Zeba Balti House in Hylton Road, Sunderland.

The business in Millfield was gutted in the fire, which broke out in the early hours of March 12. No one was injured.

Businessman Jalal Ahmed, who has run Zeba for more than 30 years, has vowed to reopen the takeaway.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of arson and has been released on police bail.

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Officers are continuing to carry out inquiries into the fire and are asking anyone with information to contact them.”
