A Chester-le-Street woman and her grandson were taken to hospital after a road accident this morning.
The woman, in her 50s, and her four-year-old grandson, were hurt when their Ford Ka collided with a Citron C3 on the southbound carriageway of the A167, on the outskirts of Pity Me, shortly before noon.
Both have been detained overnight in the RVI in Newcastle but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The driver of the Citroen was uninjured.
Both vehicles were badly damaged and had to be recovered from the scene. The road was fully reopened at 2.45pm.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the collision investigation unit via 101.
