A RESCUE operation was launched when a pensioner slipped and broke her leg.
The 77-year-old was air-lifted to hospital after taking a walk with friends along Seaham beach on Saturday afternoon.
The woman is believed to have slipped and broke her leg on stones.
She was taken to Newcastle’s RVI for treatment at about 2.15pm.
A spokeswoman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: “The woman was flown to the RVI in in 10 minutes.”
