An elderly driver is fighting for her life after her car crashed into a road sign in Durham at the weekend.
The accident happened at 8pm on Saturday as the 94-year-old driver was heading along Dragon Lane, in the Gilesgate area of Durham City.
For an unknown reason she lost control of her Smart Fortwo car and it collided with a 'keep left' bollard which was in the central reservation outside the Gilesgate Moor Hotel.
The victim, who is from Carrville in Durham sustained serious internal injuries and she was taken to the University Hospital North Durham, where she remains in a critical condition
Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw the incident is asked to contact the road policing unit on 101.
