Witness appeal after woman threatened with knife in attempted robbery

Northumbria Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident on Fairy Street, Hetton, where a man attempted to rob a 28-year-old woman at knife point.

The incident took place about 7pm on November 10 when the man approached the woman, grabbed her hair and threatened her with a knife.

He attempted to snatch her handbag as she struggled with him, but made off empty handed.

The woman suffered a small cut on her hand and was left shaken as a result of the incident.

It’s thought the offender was wearing dark clothing.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area as part of enquiries and to offer reassurance.

Hetton Neighourhood Inspector Vicky Quinn said: “Police will be in the area today to speak to the local community and offer reassurance as well as carry out enquiries to establish the identity of the offender so he can be arrested.

“Any witnesses should either speak to an officer on patrol or run us on 101 as they may have information that is crucial in helping us arrest the offender.”
