HOME kitchen cooks are being urged to become rotters as they make their meals.
Residents are being invited to get into the habit of using their peelings and green waste to make compost.
The appeal is part of Compost Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday, to help the environment by reducing the amount of household and garden waste disposed of in landfill site and to encourage people to use the results of their efforts to boost their gardens.
Anyone who would like tips on how to start their own bin can meet experts, who will be on hand at the farmer’s market in Durham Market Place, from 10am to 3pm on Thursday, May 17.
Durham County Council is offering composting bins at discounted prices.
