Will we be blasted by winds and snow this week?

The North East took a battering over the weekend as Storm Clodagh became the third newly-named storm to hit in the space of a few weeks.

But thankfully it looks like we're over the worst of the strong winds, at least for this week. Not that the weather will be rosy.

Heavy rain is expected to quickly spread across the region after a dry start. Winds will stay generally light, and rain will clear from the north during the afternoon, but it will be cold, with the mercury rising to 5°C at the highest.

There will be clear spells tonight, with temperatures falling to -3°C and rain spreading in by dawn.

On Tuesday there will be heavy rain with a risk of snow, clearing to the north during the morning, although remaining generally cloudy. Some rain will persis in the west, especially over the hills. Winds will become strong again, but it will be warmer, with a maximum temperature of 12°C.

The rest of the week is expected to be cloudy with rain or drizzle, and windy on Wednesday. It will be drier but colder on Thursday with lighter winds. Friday is expected to be mostly dry for much of Friday, but with winds strengthening and rain arriving later.
