Who is he?

Cummings is a striker, playing for Hibs in the Scottish Championship. He has spent the entirety of his senior career at the Edinburgh club, having come through their youth set up.

He is without a senior cap for Scotland, but has nine appearances for the Under-21s. A move to Sunderland and the opportunity to play for a club of this size and stature, with such a large amount of exposure, could see him make Gordon Strachan's squad.

How much will he cost?

Cummings is said to be valued at around £2million by his club, which is not a fee that would break the bank. A price tag like this could give Sunderland the opportunity to develop the player without the pressures of having a large transfer fee hanging over his head.

Why do Sunderland want him?

As previously mentioned, he is unlikely to be too costly, meaning that his signing could also allow Sunderland the opportunity to strengthen in other areas. He is also young, only 21 years old, and his impressive goalscoring record suggests that he has a lot of potential.

This, coupled with the fact that Sunderland have struggled to score goals this season, with the club managing only seven goals so far this calendar year, could make them a match made in heaven.

What will he bring to the team?

Firstly, and probably most importantly, goals. He has 20 goals this season, which is an impressive number at any level. Predominantly left-footed, he possess a strong shot from distance.

In addition to this, he will also bring with him pace and a fantastic work-rate. He loves to run in behind and stretch defences, as well as being willing to chase and pressure the opposition when his team is without the ball.

In theory, he brings exactly what Sunderland need. Pace, energy, youth and the ability to score goals, all things that seem to have been lacking for the Black Cats this season.
