South Bents Townswomen’s Guild delegates will be attending the Regional Federation Luncheon today in Bishop Auckland Methodist Church. Tomorrow, South Bents committee will meet at 6.30pm in Whitburn Methodist Church hall prior to craft class at 7pm.

Slimming World meets on Tuesdays at 7pm in the Barnes Institute, East Street. The consultant is Joanne and she can be contacted on 07540 626 237.

On Fridays, a new exercise class, Actify, takes place in the Barnes Institute at 10am. Actify is a fun way to get fit for those who need to be seated but wish to enjoy low impact exercise and non-intense workouts. It is perfect for beginners, older people and those with mobility problems or recovering from illness or surgery. Next Tuesday, April 26, a free micro-chipping session for dogs and puppies will be held in the Barnes Institute from 11am to 3pm. This has been organised by the Dogs Trust in conjunction with South Tyneside Homes and South Tyneside Council. A Check-your-Chip service and basic health check will also be available, but any treatment required will necessitate a visit to a veterinary surgeon at your expense. All dogs should be wearing a collar and lead and be with a handler over 18 years of age.

Whitburn Parish Church congregation filled Smartie tubes with coins as part of South Tyneside Churches appeal in aid of the Alzheimer’s Awareness project. The grand sum of £354.60 was collected and grateful thanks go to all who took the time to take part, after eating the Smarties, of course.

The Barnes Institute is available for hire for one-off events eg children’s parties and can accommodate a bouncy castle. Contact Carol Shield on 07767 156 134 for more information. A coffee morning is held every Monday and Wednesday from 10am until noon to which all are welcome.
