South Bents TG will support the Sunderland Federation coffee morning in St Mary’s Church hall, North Bridge Street, at 10am tomorrow. The Federation carol service will be held in St Hilda’s Church, Southwick, at 2pm on Saturday.

Singing with Music in the Minster, part of the Cultural Spring programme, is holding its end of term concert in the Barnes Institute tonight at 7pm. All family and friends of the participants are welcome to attend. There will be an informal bring-and-share feast with wine after the performance and all donations to the table will be much appreciated. The sessions will restart in mid-January to March 2016.

Whitburn Winter Festival Fun Day is on Saturday from 11am to 3pm. In the Barnes Institute there will be youngsters from local primary schools singing carols at 11am, various craft and Christmas-themed stalls, lucky dip, tombolas, bouncy castle, face painters, Santa Claus with gifts for children, festive refreshments in the Coffee Shop and the Christmas draw with many prizes at 2.45pm. Admission is £1 per person including a glass of mulled wine or hot drink for adults and most children’s activities free. Whitburn shops will be participating in festive mood with the best dressed window display being awarded a bottle of champagne. Whitburn Methodist Church is holding a Mission Brass Band Concert on Saturday. Contact Irene on 529 3118 for tickets, for which a donation is requested. All proceeds will go towards the Methodist charity, Action for Children.

Whitburn Parish Church 100 Club winners for November are: C Allison, A Elsy and K Blackburn. The December draw will take place before Christmas and the prizes will be double the normal amount. Santa Claus will be visiting Souter over the next three weekends (5/6, 12/13, 19/20) from noon to 5pm. To take part in a full hour of magical experience for children up to the age of 10, booking is essential on 529 0909 and the cost per child is £10. The Story Den continues today and each term-time Tuesday in the Barnes Institute. These are fun-filled sessions for toddlers with books coming to life through songs, dance, games, art and much more. Little Page Turners for 2 to 4 year olds with Baby Bookworms for 12 to 24 months meet in a combined session from 10am to 11am. Whitburn Local History Group meets for its final session on Friday, December 11, from 2pm to 3.30pm. Chris Moore will talk about Whitburn to Flanders Field, an Anniversary Tour. The group will next meet on March 18, 2016.

The Northumberland Theatre Company makes a welcome return to the parish church hall, Sandy Chare on Friday, December 18, at 7.30pm with a production for all the family of The Ugly Duckling. Tickets are available from Jean Atkinson on 529 3574.
