South Bents Townswomen’s Guild will support Sunderland Federation coffee morning tomorrow at 10am in St Mary’s Church hall, Bridge Street.
The committee meets at 7pm in the home of the chairman. The first full meeting of the new season will be next Wednesday, September 9, at 7pm in Whitburn Methodist Church hall, when Colin Orr will give a talk entitled Famous Quotations.
The Barnes Institute is holding an AGM on Saturday at 2pm and all are welcome to attend, especially if you are interested in taking an involved role in the future management of the Institute. The Trustees will present the financial report for 2014/15 and the annual report of developments during the past year. The sustainable future of this historic community asset, belonging to and used by Whitburn residents since 1905, is dependent upon maximum support from local volunteers to ensure its viability. Currently the small but active committee is looking for dedicated help with finance, fund raising, administration, maintenance and attracting new users. Souter Lighthouse, including the gift shop and tearoom, opens daily except Fridays throughout this month. On Sunday, a car boot sale takes place from 10am to 2pm. Sellers will be charged £10 per car and can set up from 9am on the north side of the lighthouse, the site of old Marsden Village. Entry for buyers is by donation. The final sale of the season will be on Sunday, September 20.
The final presentation of live music in the Victorian Bandstand, South Marine Park, South Shields, will be on Saturday, featuring Rivelino. Harton Quays craft fair is on Sunday from 10.30am to 3pm. This is the last one until Christmas.

Whitburn Churches Together Lunch Club is held every Thursday from noon in the Methodist Church hall. Soup, salad, sandwiches and a sweet, together with unlimited tea, coffee and stimulating conversation are available for £3.
