West Ham United 1 Sunderland 0: Black Cats beaten but who scooped man of match gong?
A Michail Antonio goal in the 30th minute was enough to separate the two sides at Upton Park, with Sunderland missing several second half chances.
Richard Mennear gives his player ratings below:
Sunderland (4-1-4-1)
Vito Mannone: Made a superb save to tip Noble's effort onto the bar. Could have done better with goal but saved from Antonio. Kicking was poor....6

Patrick van Aanholt: It was his mistake for the opening goal, poor clearance initially and then Antonio ghosted past him like he wasn't there....5
John O’Shea (C): Had his hands full with West Ham's dangerous forwards, coped well enough alongside Lamine Kone. Payet kept quiet.....7
Lamine Kone: Not as dominant as recent matches but didn't do much wrong. Kept Emenike quiet.....7

Lee Cattermole: Played in a more advanced midfield role. Defensively he was solid, played some nice through balls but not creative enough. Subbed.....6
Yann M’Vila: Sunderland struggled to maintain possession in midfield. First half M'Vila struggled to impose himself, with Sunderland lacking creativity....6
Wahbi Khazri: Kept swapping wings with N'Doye. Showed flashes first half, hit the crossbar with one free-kick. Showboating late on was poor judgement. Not his day, really....6

Jermain Defoe: Was feeding off scraps in first half, playing up front by himself. Missed a glorious chance early second half.....6
Subs:Jack Rodwell (for Cattermole, 65): Had two excellent chances to equalise, first saved by Adrian, second blocked by Byram. Should have scored....6
