Following on from a weekend of wind and a Monday sprinkled with showers, the Met Office says we can expect sunshine but more downpours during today.

What else can we expect?

We're most likely to see the sun early on, with it to cloud over from around 8am, with it set to be overcast throughout the morning.

The temperature will be between 10C and 12C during the morning.

When is the rain likely to fall?

The forecast predicts we will see a downpour from around noon, with a few dry spells expected in between showers, with some sunshine expected in the north of the region even though it will be wet.

Overall, the Met Office expects the region to be overcast, with lots of cloud cover overhead.

The maximum temperature will be around 16C during the day.

What about the outlook for later in the week?

From Wednesday it will be bright with more isolated showers, becoming cloudier on Thursday, with bouts of rain or drizzle in the south.

It will be cooler with sunny spells and showers on Friday, perhaps locally heavy.

What can we expect towards the weekend for the UK?

The longer-range forecast predicts that from Saturday, July 11, to Monday, July 20, there will be isolated light showers in the north to start, but elsewhere looking dry with bright or sunny spells.

Winds staying light and temperatures rather cool to average.

Looking further ahead, a north/south split across the UK seems most likely, with northern and northwestern areas expected to see further spells of rain, accompanied by strong winds, with the possibility of these spreading to some other areas at times.

Further south however, there should be more in the way of dry weather, though even here, there is still the possibility of some showers, or longer spells of rain.

Temperatures are likely to be either around or on the warmer side of average, with the warmest conditions likely in the southeast.
