Sunderland weather: Sunny intervals with cloud over the city
How will the day begin?
Showers are unlikely in the morning and any that do arrive will soon ease away. It will be a mainly bright start with some sunshine. Cloud will thicken later, especially by the coast, in the day. A maximum temperature of 20 °C should be expected.
The sunniest part of the day will be at around noon when the sky is set to be at its clearest.

Will the sun continue into the evening?
There is a 40% chance of rain developing in the evening at around 6pm but that isn’t expected to last long.
The cloud and any outbreaks of rain will clear southeastwards through the night which will leave most parts of the city feeling dry with some clear spells by the morning of Thursday, August 22. Expect a minimum temperature of 10 °C.
What is the weather for the rest of the week?
The weather is predicted to stay dry with some sunny spells later in the week as we pass hump day. It will feel warm as we approach the Bank Holiday weekend, although an onshore breeze will keep coastal areas cooler throughout.
As the temperature is set to rise, thunder and heavy rain is forecast across the UK but Sunderland may not be hit by the worst of it.
