Sunderland weather forecast: What the Met Office is predicting for the city this week

As the country enters its 10th week of coronavirus lockdown measures, Sunderland families can get set to enjoy a few days of warm weather as the sun puts his hat on for what would have been the spring half-term break.

Met Office forecasters are predicting a week of warm temperatures on Wearside – with plenty of sunshine to boot.

So it’s time to head out into the garden and fire up the barbecue to make the most of your week.

The latest predictions say that the best of the weather will arrive on Friday, May 29 through to Sunday, May 31 with highs of 18°C, beaming sunshine and very little cloud.

But the run-up to the weekend will be mild too with forecasters expecting temperatures to be around 15°C or 16°C with sunny intervals.

These are all the shops which the Government says can reopen from June 15

In a round-up, the Met Office said: “Generally dry and settled weather through to the weekend with some long sunny spells, although sunshine rather hazy at times.

“Warm or very warm inland, but cooler around the coast.”

Forecasters add that Sunderland’s pollen count is expected to be low throughout this week, so that’s a bit of extra good news too!

Moving forward to next week – a time which could see children in Reception classes, Year 1 and Year 6 return to the classroom from Monday, June 1 – the weather is expected to stay generally dry and warm, but with a risk of thunderstorms in some areas.
