Wearside three selected for Lionhearts squad

Three Wearside boxers have been selected as part of the British Lionhearts squad.

Josh Kelly and the McCormack brothers, Pat and Luke, are part of a 30-man Great Britain team who will compete in Season VI of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) which begins next week.

The event gives boxers a chance to boost their opportunities to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

WSB provides a qualification route to Rio whereby a boxer who competes once in seasons 2015 and 2016 or twice in season 2016 will be eligible for selection by GB Boxing to compete at the WSB Olympic qualifying event in Sofia in May.

The new season of WSB begins on Thursday next week when the Lionhearts take on the USA Knockouts in Miami.

The team follows this with a trip to Morocco to face the Atlas Lions on Friday, February 5.

The first home match is against the Mexico Guerreros on Thursday, February 19 at York Hall in London.
