Wearside League: Silksworth CW look for seventh-place finish after cup final disappointment

The Wearsiders have a near full squad to choose from for the 2.30pm kick-off at Mariners Park.

Manager Andrew Stobbart said: “We are going into the final game of the season looking to finish as high as possible.

“We will have to put the disappointment of the cup final loss behind us and focus on getting three points.

“Despite the recent loss, we have been in good form and if we keep performing to that level and keep clean sheets, we will win more games than we lose.”

South Shields Reserves assistant manager David Graham and coach Christopher Reay will take charge of the side, as manager Leepaul Scroggins is unavailable.

Shields hope to have a full squad to select from.

Sunderland West End travel to Wolviston for their final league match, but are struggling to pull a team together.

Mark Robinson will be missing due to injury and Neal Bussey looks set to replace Graeme Pickering in goal.

Jamie Fryatt will make a return to the team after not playing for a long spell, while Barry Turton will move up front and Mark Catcheside will play on the left side of midfield.

Joint manager Anthony Nelson said: “This will be our last game of the season against Wolviston, but we can’t take anything for granted.

“We have a lot of players injured or unavailable, but hope to finish on a high and take all three points.”

The sides will meet again in next Friday’s Monkwearmouth Cup final at Ford Quarry (7pm).,

Wolviston still miss central defender Adam Johnston, who has a knee problem, but defender Andrew McGirr and striker Tony Johnson return after missing out last week due to work commitments.

Boldon CA entertain Stokesley SC and manager Paul Mossa takes charge of the home the team for the last time.

Mossa, who is leaving the club after three years in the hot seat, is hoping that all his players report fit for his farewell.

Goalkeeper Alan Greenan is still out, so centre-forward Michael Young has stepped in to help out. Striker and top scorer Adam Bell returns after missing last weekend’s game.

Redcar Athletic host Leam Rangers and need a win to clinch the title.

However, a number of players will definitely be missing, due to injuries.

Chris Bivens and Daniel Drazdauskas will not play, while Adam Preston, Stuart Browne and Anthony Jones are rated 50/50.

Sam Webster returns after a three-match suspension, while reserve players Marcus Wood, Josh Heathcock, McCorie Carmichael and James Ascough could all find themselves included in the 16-man squad.

If Redcar do not win, then Cleator Moor Celtic will be champions if they beat visitors Coxhoe Athletic.

Bottom club Coxhoe go west without Philip Best, the suspended David Cairns and injured Jack Elcoat.

Daniel Scott will be back in the squad, with Coxhoe hoping that Callum Savage and Tom Orton will also return.

Coxhoe secretary Paul Charlton said: “This will be our last game of the season and we hope to finish off with a win.

“Cleator Moor need to win to take the league title, so they will be going all out for victory, but we will make it difficult for them, even though we have nothing really to play for.

“Hopefully we can get a good result to end our season on.”

Annfield Plain aim to build on their midweek victory when they entertain sixth-placed Richmond Town.
