Wearside League: Moody, Renton take Silksworth CW up to sixth place

Silksworth CW climbed to sixth place in the TWR Bifolds Wearside League with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over Darlington Reserves last night.

Silksworth struck after five minutes, when Stephen Moody tapped in past goalkeeper Matthew Bancroft, and it was 2-0 on 12 minutes, when Nathan Renton headed home an excellent cross.

Darlington managed to pull a goal back on 30 minutes through Jamie O’Brien, after a defensive mix-up, but Silksworth took the points to go sixth, with one match still to play.

Fourth-placed Sunderland West End were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Richmond Town.

Kalumn Holbrook scored for the Yorkshire outfit after 10 minutes, direct from a free-kick past goalkeeper Neal Bussey.

West End left it late for their equaliser, but, in the 89th minute, Brad Forster scored from the penalty spot, giving goalkeeper Mark Walker no chance.

Fifth-top Boldon CA beat lowly Annfield Plain 3-2, thanks to a brace from Adam Bell and a Jonny Gage effort. Conor Burns and Nathan Morley (penalty) kept Annfield in the game.

Bottom club Coxhoe Athletic worked hard for a decent 0-0 draw away to Harton and Westoe CW.

Leam Rangers beat Hartlepool 2-0. Dean McCallum’s fine drive opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and Nathan Bailey added a second.

Second-top Redcar Athletic routed Stokesley SC 9-0, thanks to Michael Woodhouse (3), Andy Jennings (4), Marcus Wood and McCorie Carmichael.
