Wearside League: Ashbrooke Belford House rocked by last-gasp sickener

Ashbrooke Belford House's bad run of results in the TWR Bifolds Wearside League continued with a 3-2 defeat to bottom club Harton and Westoe CW last night.

Harton scored first in the second minute, when Dominic Solman slotted the ball home, but Harry Graham hauled Belford level after 20 minutes.

Matty Minchella put Harton ahead again after 70 minutes, when he scored from close range, but Ashbrooke fought back again to equalise through Josh Farquhar’s tap-in five minutes later.

Solman secured the points, and only Harton’s fourth win, in the last minute, when his shot from outside the box flew past goalkeeper David Passmore.

Second-bottom Seaham Red Star Reserves lost 1-0 at home to in-form Cleator Moor Celtic.

The crucial goal came in the 10th minute, when Callum Birdsall smashed the ball home from the edge of the box, past goalkeeper Elliott Stephenson.

Redcar Athletic moved into second place when they snatched a dramatic victory by 2-1 at Stokesley SC.

The home side did start the stronger of the two teams and opened the scoring in the 35th minute, when Anthony Barnes turned well to fire into the bottom corner.

However, Redcar equalised in the 90th minute through Adam Preston and, five minutes into injury time, Andrew Jennings headed home a dramatic winner.

South Shields Reserves kicked off their home game against Annfield Plain, but the match was abandoned after 35 minutes due to surface water, with the game still goalless.

Prudhoe Town’s home game against Richmond Town was postponed due to floodlight failure.
