FROM reducing road accidents to making Wearsiders healthier and wealthier, the council’s scrutiny committees have spent the past year keeping tabs on important issues in the city.

The seven watchdog committees feedback to councillors on their work over the past 12 months and listed their priority areas.

Graeme Miller, chairman of the environment and attractive city committee, reported on its work in proposing 20mph zones to cut down on accidents in the city, and study on improving public transport.

Coun Michael Mordey listed the work done by his Prosperity and Economic Development committee in areas such as city centre trade, and Councillor Peter Walker fedback on the work of the Health and Well Being committee in improving the lives of Wearsiders.
