Ward, of West Rainton, weighed in at 8st 10lbs ahead of the title fight at the Rainton Meadows Arena tomorrow evening.

His opponent Rodriguez, however, weighed in at one pound over the weight limit and was given an hour to skip off the excess weight.

The bout in Rainton signals Ward's first foray into the field of European Championships, with a world title fight potentially only two more victories away.

It will be the 24-year-olds first fight since March, where he defeated Lesther Cantillano at the same venue.
