Ha’way the Lads - Sunderland players have been having a go at mastering the Mackem tongue.
John O’Shea, Steven Fletcher, Sebastián Coates and DeAndre Yedlin have been getting to grips with the lingo of their fans.
A new video on YouTube, released by the club, shows them trying to pronounce and decipher words from The Mackem Dictionary, with terms like hockle, radge and clamped leaving them stumped.
The book is the brainchild of Sunderland artist and photographer Paul Swinney, working in collaboration with publishers ALS.
It captures the rich range of words and phrases commonly used in Wearside, with all of the proceeds going to SAFC charity The Foundation of Light.
After its release last month, the book, priced £5, shot straight to the top of the charts at Waterstones in The Bridges.
