Jan Kirchhoff has handed Sunderland a fitness boost after taking part in today's open training session.
The German midfielder has been sidelined since October with a hamstring injury.
But he took part in a low-intensity passing session at the Stadium of Light in front of thousands of fans as he stepped up his comeback bid, playing in a red bib in the centre of the pitch.
Boss David Moyes is hoping to have the influential player available for the last two months of the season.
