Former X Factor starts The Cutkelvins impressed thousands of fans with their energetic performance at the latest South Tyneside Festival.

The group, made up of family members Jay, Shereen and Kyle Cutkelvin from Lanark, Scotland, performed a mix of their own material and popular covers during their set at the second South Tyneisde Festival this year.

The talented three-piece band reached last year's X Factor semi-finals.

Speaking after their energetic set, which saw band members greet members of the audience, the group said they were delighted to have been able to play at the popular festival.

Jay said: "It was brilliant to be doing our own thing, performing our own music and seeing the reaction from the crowd.

"Everyone seemed to be enjoying it and it was great to see many thousands of people here today."

Shereen said: "We are booked out with gigs and we have our new single out at the end of the month."

The crowd was also delighted to see The Vamps support act, New Hope Club, perform at the event.

The upcoming rock-pop band have just supported The Vamps on their recent tour of the UK, Ireland & Australia and are receiving a number of plaudits including a nomination for Choice Next Big Thing at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles.

Band member Blake Richardson said: "We take a lot of inspiration from old music, our favourite band is the Beatles.

"We all play instruments and we are a young pop act so a lot of our fans are younger.

"We have a fun and energetic sound.

"We have been to Newcastle before and its nice to be back in the North East."
