Washington man charged with murder after 2013 attack makes court appearance

Joseph Leech tragically died on April 2, 2015, after suffering serious injuries in an assault in Woodland Terrace, Washington, on December 23, 2013.

Karl Pascoe appeared yesterday via videolink from Nottingham Prison charged with the 32-year-old’s murder.

The 31-year-old, from Blackfell, Washington, spoke only to confirm his name and age during a brief hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.

He was told that he could make no application for bail and would be remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday.

District Judge Sarah Griffiths told Pascoe; “You are in custody at Nottingham Prison.

“This case has to be heard at Newcastle Crown Court.

“You can’t make any application for bail and it falls for you to be remanded in custody to appear at the crown court.

“The hearing will be on Monday, April 18.

“You will be seen by a crown court judge on that occasion.”
