McCormack, last year’s European Championship silver medallist, will box in the last eight on Wednesday afternoon.

The Birtley ABC fighter has made a superb start to 2016 and is one of the form men at light-welterweight.

There are three spots on offer for the Olympic Games in each of the men’s weight categories at this tournament.

It means McCormack must either reach the final in Samsun or be the semi-finalist who loses to the gold medal winner.

McCormack has already scored two outstanding wins this year, both in the World Series of Boxing league, when wearing the GB Lionhearts vest.

The national champion outpointed American Gary Russell in Miami and then defeated Mexico’s Raul Curiel, a fighter who has already qualified for Rio.
