Warnings of more lane closures on busy Sunderland route from this morning

One of Sunderland's busiest commuter routes is partially closed from today as work steps up on the new Wear Crossing.

An 800 metre section of the A1231 Wessington Way is down to one lane in each direction either side of the Sainsbury’s roundabout.

Lane closures will be in place for most of the year to allow for the roundabout to be changed into a junction and for the construction of the approach road to the new bridge.

Temporary traffic lights will be in place from Wednesday through to Friday on part of the route through Sunderland Enterprise Park near to DW Fitness. This short section of the main route through the Enterprise Park will then be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

Sunderland Enterprise Park will remain open throughout the works.
