HORSE painkillers stolen from a car could prove fatal if taken by people, police have warned.

A large quantity crystalline form of the drug Danilon was taken from the vehicle while it was parked in Glen Terrace, Chester-le-Street in the early hours of yesterday.

Police say the sachet of the substance, which is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, is clearly marked for use on horses only and could cause death if taken by humans.

Anyone with information about the break-in is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
