THE fire brigade is urging householders not to leave their wheelie bins out in the street after a spate of suspected arsons.

Firefighters dealt with three bin fires in Helvellyn Road, Sunderland, at about 4am today.

They also put another out in nearby Hill View Road.

A spokesman at Sunderland Central Fire Station, whose crews dealt with the fires, said: “Someone has set fire to them as they walked up the street.

“Our advice is where possible to put bins out on the day of collection and then take them in as soon as possible.

“If you leave them out overnight this can happen.”
