PETROLhead pals are about to embark on an epic adventure in search of motoring glory.
Nissan workers David Stott, Kristian Benson and Craig Turner will take on the four-day Scumrun charity rally which could take them across Europe.
Their adventure will start in Dover on the south coast at the beginning of next month, where organisers will give them their first target destination.
Hundreds of teams are expected to take part in the contest and the trio say they will doing their level-best to get themselves on the podium.
The friends recently bought a 1992 Mercedes 190E for £500 and they are now putting the finishing touches to it in preparation for the rally, in which all three will take turns getting behind the wheel.
One nightshift the three lads decided to give the car a shark makeover.
“We’ve been doing the car up over the past few weeks and we’ve got it ready now,” said David, 24, of South Hetton, a former Houghton Kepier School pupil.
“It’s only really the beginning of this year that we decided to enter but for the last four months we’ve been preparing.” The event is being professionally filmed and will be broadcast across the world via social media.
“At the start we’ll get an envelope telling us where to drive to,” said David.
“It could be Poland, Italy, anywhere, really. We’ve never done anything like this before but we’re all looking forward to it.”
“It’s going to be hard to do well in it, but we’re going to give it a go anyway. The main thing is having fun.”
The rally takes place from May 2 to May 6 and the lads are now in the process of raising the £500 charity sponsorship in aid of Wellchild.org.uk.
They are also looking for business sponsorship from a Wearside company.
“If anybody could help us out that’d be great,” added David.
“We’re willing to let them advertise on the car too so they’ll get a lot out of it.”
