Volunteers to help oversee fire and rescue standards

PUBLIC-SPIRITED people are needed to help oversee standards in democracy.

County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority needs two volunteers to take a key role in a new system of dealing with any complaints against its members.

Successful recruits will be called upon to give their views on complaints made against elected representatives.

The authority will use feedback to help decide how an allegation should be handled.

Clerk Colette Longbottom said: “This role is important to the public’s perception of the maintenance of high standards of conduct amongst the Authority’s members.”

“It is very important that the people we appoint are seen to be genuinely independent of the authority, and able to provide a completely objective view.”
