The Voice talent scouts hoping to unearth talent at Sunderland pub

Talent scouts will be on the hunt for singers to take part in next year’s show at an open mic night being held at The Dun Cow tomorrow night.

Any undiscovered singers of any musical style, whether a soloist, duo or trio, are welcome to the apply for the show which will be screened on ITV in 2017.

Though tomorrow night’s session won’t be a set audition, talent scouts from the show will be in the audience as part of their nationwide search for a star.

Sunderland singers have had considerable success on the show.

This year, Melissa Cavanagh, 25, from Ashbrooke, made it onto Team Boy George after making it through to The Battles Round. She wowed the Culture Club singer at the Blind Auditions stage after five years of trying to get on the show.

“It was just a dream to be part of the show,” she said. “Working with all the crew was great, they are lovely.”

The former Thornhill School pupil said: “It was a huge platform for me, performing to a TV audience of millions. Eventually, I hope to sing for a living, and this can only help.”

This year’s series also saw rocker Billy Black from Pallion cause a stir with Boy George’s fellow coaches: Paloma Faith, Ricky Wilson and Will.i.am.

And in last year’s The Voice, Olivia Lawson, from Grindon, made it through to the Knockout stage.

The open mic night will take place tomorrow, May 31, from 8pm at The Dun Cow, High Street West, city centre.

Applicants must be 16-years-old by October 1, 2016.

Under 18s are allowed until 9pm but need to be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.
