VISUALLY-IMPAIRED tennis players from Sunderland will be giving a demonstration to show off what they can do this month before hosting a tournament in May.

Members of the North East Visually-Impaired Tennis Club (Nevitc) will be providing the demonstration at the National Premier League Tennis Finals, at the Sunderland Tennis Centre, between 10 and 11am on Friday, March 28.

They took part in a similar demonstration at the same event last year, which has prompted a further demonstration at this years event.

Steve Trewick, who plays for the club, said: “As a result of us doing this, Mike Dixon, the organiser of the National Premier League Tennis Finals, got in touch and asked us if we’d like to do a similar thing at this event.”

The club will hoping to use the demonstration and the tournament to help generate more interest in the game, as well as awareness for the visually-impaired in the Sunderland area.

The tournament itself is taking place in Northumberland on the weekend of the May 10/11.

Steve said: “There are people coming from all over the country.”
