Vera Baird re-elected as Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner

Labour's Vera Baird has been re-elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria.

She received 180,479 first choice preference votes in today's count at Silksworth Leisure Centre, more than half of those cast and enough to see her elected outright without second-choice preferences having to be taken into account.

Conservative candidate Stewart Thomas Hay was second, with 58,713 first-choice votes. Ukip's Melanie Hurst was third, with 52,293 first-choice votes and theLiberal Demovrat canidate, Jonathan Wallace, received 34,757 first-choice ballots.

Total turn-out 334,277, - or 32.1 per cent - with 326,242 votes counted and 8,035 rejected papers.
