Using sport to help region’s youngsters

SUPPORT is available for groups aiming to change the lives of young people.

Sported has free membership to County Durham not-for-profit groups working with 11 to 25 year olds, and using sport to achieve development.

The charity has already supported groups in East Durham and Tyne and Wear, to deliver outcomes including reducing crime and antisocial behaviour, building stronger communities and providing young people with skills for work.

Sported has invested £23,000 of grant funding in North East projects this year, in addition to providing capacity building support through mentoring and resources to a range of organisations.

Sandra Hillyards, Sported Regional Manager for the North East, said “Sport and physical activity can really change the lives of disadvantaged young people.

“Sported recognises the difference that these inspirational projects make, and supports them to become more sustainable.

“I am excited to extend our membership in County Durham and look forward to supporting more fantastic projects”
