A MAN has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a bus in a busy Sunderland road.
Police were called out at just after 2.30pm when the pedestrian was involved in a collision with the bus in Kayll Road, next to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
Ambulance crews arrived to treat the man, who has suffered serious injuries, before taking him to hospital.
Diversions have been put in place around Kayll Road as investigators try to find out what happened.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “At 2.34pm on Monday police received a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a bus in Kayll Road.
“Emergency services are on the scene and a man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
“A section of Kayll Road is closed and diversions are in place.”
The section of road that had to be closed was re-opened shortly before 5.15pm.
