Unbeaten South Hylton take a giant step towards title

Tommy Ayre got Steels off to a good start before a break of 21 and a 25 clearance saw Bobby Boyce level the match.

Graham Rutland moved Hylton into the lead before a 32 break saw Ian Stewart dominate the fourth frame.

In the pairs, a 25 break by Kevin Harrop and a 41 break by Phil Burford helped Hylton win the frame 72-21.

Lumley B had a good 4-1 win at home to Biddick B to move into third place with only the pair’s frame escaping them.

Brian Meuse, Sean Henderson, Richie Tiffin and Alec Hannan put Lumley in control, but Trevor Walton and Philip Straughan won the pairs frame for a consolation point.

Glendale held firm to see off the threat of Washington Snooker A and claim a narrow 3-2 victory.

The match between Green Baize and Whitburn was postponed due to a shortage of players for Whitburn.

Elsewhere in the division, Biddick A edged to a nervy 3-2 win over Washington Snooker B.

In Division Two, Mill View A recovered from last week’s shock defeat with an excellent 5-0 win at home to The Victory.

Keith Johnston, Adam Burnell, John Burnell, Peter Davies were successful in the single frames.

Ken Alderson and Dan Alderson won the pairs 58-21 to complete the whitewash.

Murton Colliery took the first two frames away to Pennywell Comrades, thanks to Gary Stockton and Stephen Cook.

Dean Taylor pulled one back for Pennywell and Ian McDermott levelled the match in the next frame.

Stephen Smith and Steve O’Wellen completed the Pennywell comeback when they beat Gary Stockton and Stephen Cook 52-30 to win the match 3-2.

Paul Stoves, Aaron Duncan and Joe Nord put Lumley A in control when the took on Cheemas.

John Longstaff pulled one back for Cheemas, bit in the pairs, Paul Stoves and Paul Nord beat Lee Campion and Gurj Cheema 55-27 for the 4-1 win.

Railway lost out 3-2 when they entertained Mill View B, and Seaham Conservatives edged out Murton Officials 3-2.
