THE FUTURE is bright for the UK car industry as Nissan gears up to start producing three new models.

That was the message from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) after the firm’s announcement it is to start building a further two new models at Sunderland from 2014 in addition to the Qashqai, Juke and Leaf, which enters production next year.

New SMMT figures show car production in the UK was up 123 per cent in the first three months of the year.

“The prospects for the UK motor industry are extremely good with new investment, commitment and jobs being created by global automotive companies,” said chief executive Paul Everit.
