FIRE crews from the region have been scrambled to help tackle flooding affecting the east coast of Britain.

A team of four firefighters and a water incident manager from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were sent to help flood-hit areas near Hull using specialist high-volume pumps.

Group manager Keith Trotter said: “Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service mobilised crews and the specialist pumping equipment to the most affected area of flooding risk near to Hull.

“This type of operation reinforces our service’s ability to respond locally, regionally and nationally to any major incident.”
