Two men arrested following discovery of cannabis farm at Sunderland house

Police have arrested two men on suspicion of burglary after a cannabis farm was found at a house in Sunderland.

Officers were called out in the early hours of Thursday in response to a report of a burglary at a property in Carley Road, Southwick.

They found that there had been a burglary but a cannabis farm was also uncovered.

One man who lives in Carley Road, but did not want to be named, said: "I saw the police vans in the street after 4am.

"The officers were going in around the back of the house and had the police dogs with them.

"It's usually a pretty quiet area so this had me shaking."

A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: "Police were called to an address in Carley Road in Southwick, Sunderland at 4.22am on Thursday, March 24, following reports of a burglary.

"Officers attended and found there had been a burglary and also discovered a cannabis farm at the property.

"Two men aged 32 and 34 have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"Inquiries are continuing."
