Two men have appeared in court today after a man was attacked at a house in Houghton.
The Echo reported yesterday how police had cordoned off Mount Pleasant in the Nesham Place area of the town on Sunday night after police were told of a disturbance.
A number of people - believed to have armed themselves with a spade - had tried to force entry to an address.
Those involved are believed to be known to each other.
Emergency services attended the scene and a 54-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the incident, three people were arrested and two men were charged with grievous bodily harm with intent.
Richard Scorer, 48, of John Street, Houghton, and Luke Daniel Scorer, 27, of Mount Pleasant, also Houghton, appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court today.
No pleas were entered and both defendants were given conditional bail.
They will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on August 7.
One woman has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
Police are still keen to hear from anybody who witnessed the incident to assist with their enquiries.
