TWO men were left battered and bruised after they were attacked.
The victims had been out with three men in Durham and then Peterlee on Tuesday night and were assaulted as they headed home.
The group was in Matterdale Road between 10pm and 10.30pm when the disturbance broke out.
Both men, one aged 22 and the other 23, were taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment to bruises and bumps.
The 22-year-old was kept in a day for observations as it is thought he suffered from concussion.
Police are trying to trace the three others believed to be involved in the incident.
