Two people have been taken to hospital after they were injured in a crash on the A19 this afternoon.
A fire service spokesman said three appliances were called at 2.40pm to the collision on the A19 between two vehicles on the A19 southbound at the A690 Durham Road junction.
Two people were injured- but were not trapped- and were treated by paramedics on scene.
Six resources from the Tyne and Wear Ambulance Service including a team from the Hazardous Area Response Unit were called to the scene at 2.35pm and took two people to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.
They left the scene at 3.05pm.
Drivers reported tailbacks from the A183 to Testos roundabout.
