Two hurt after road crash with police car in Sunderland

A driver and a passenger have been taken to hospital after a rush-hour crash with a police car outside a Wearside supermarket.

Police are appealing for information after the collision involving a police vehicle and a Toyota Carolla outside the Sainsbury’s store, southbound on Riverside Road at 5.17pm today.

The male driver of the Toyota and a female passenger were taken to hospital for treatment with what are beleived to be minor injuries.

The police officer was not injured.

A road closure has been put in place on Riverside Road from the Sainsbury’s junction to Castletown Way while the scene is investigated and vehicles removed.

However, there is still access to Sainsbury’s store.
