Twins put behind bars after broom handle attack

TWINS who chased a man through a shop and attacked him with a broom handle, have been jailed.

Jordan and Jason Longworth, 20, were locked up by a judge at Durham Crown Court for the assault on Scott Banks. The court heard there is a history of ill-feeling between the Longworths and Mr Banks.

“He was on foot taking his child to the nursery,” said Chris Baker, prosecuting. “One of the Longworths went past in a car. Mr Banks feared there may be trouble so he decided to take a different route home.”

The court was told both Longworths arrived in a car and chased Mr Banks on foot into a Poundstretcher shop in Essington Way, Peterlee.

He ran out of a fire exit, but was trapped in a yard surrounded by a perimeter fence.

“He was caught by the Longworths, hit with the broom handle and subjected to a flurry of punches and kicks,” said Mr Baker. “They left, but later sent a text to Mr Banks saying they would run him out of town.”

Jordan Longworth, of Wasdale, and James Longworth, of Duddon Close, both Peterlee, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Jordan Longworth was jailed for nine months, and James Longworth for 19 months, including 10 months from a previous suspended sentence. They were also given an indefinite restraining order banning them from Queensberry Road, Seaham, or approaching or contacting Scott Banks and Jody Crisp.
