WOO your Valentine at a top-rated Sunderland restaurant – and it won’t cost you a penny.
All you have to do is tell us about your worst dating disaster, a truly terrible date, to be in with a chance of winning a meal for two on one of the busiest nights of the year.
We’ve teamed up with the Food Standards Agency (FSA) for the competition. The agency is encouraging people to look at hygiene ratings before booking at a restaurant.
The winner will be treated to a Valentine’s Day meal for two at Signatures Italian in Silksworth, which already has the five hygiene rating, the top Food Hygiene Rating that can be awarded.
The FSA aims to give consumers information about hygiene standards in food outlets so that they can make informed choices and to drive up hygiene standards in food businesses.
It’s hoped that this will reduce the incidence of food-borne illness – estimated to be 500,000 cases annually.
Catriona Stewart, head of the Food Hygiene Ratings Team at the Food Standards Agency, added: “On Valentine’s Day people are focused on making sure that special lunch or dinner goes well and that they make a good impression with their date.
“We want them to factor in the food hygiene rating when deciding where to go and then enjoy their romantic meal out.”
•To check a food outlet’s rating, go to www.food.gov.uk/ratings or if you’re out and about, look for the green and black rating sticker.
To win a Valentine’s meal at Signatures, email your dating disaster and contact details to Katy.Wheeler@jpress.co.uk. Or send them to Dating Disaster, Katy Wheeler, Echo House, Pennywell Industrial Estate, Sunderland, SR4 9ER.
Closing date: February 12.
The Valentine’s meal for two is offered on a £50 budget on the restaurant’s two-course early bird menu from 4.30pm-7pm and that includes a bottle of house wine.
